Capturing patterns of light into my paintings has kept me striving for that perfect glowing image. Painting on location enriches my life, so my paintings are a journal through which I can express myself. As Pablo Picasso said, "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary". Although most of my landscapes are painted al la prima meaning "at one time" a wet-in-wet oil painting method, during the colder months I spend time in studios doing figure painting in oils, pastels, or watercolors and working on new ways to push my art into exciting directions.
I’ve been painting for over 30 years . I developed an early interest in drawing which naturally progressed into painting and I have embraced a passion for painting from life. Either painting en plein air or painting in studios from live models. Being largely self-taught, I choose a more of direct approach of seeking out specific artists whom I felt could teach me the skills I desired to reach my goals in art. My paintings are an interpretation of what I see; my intention is to convey feeling, the spirit of the subject and a sense of connection. I'm influenced by patterns in nature, the light and shadow, and my travels.
